About 40 people were injured late Tuesday as an American Airlines plane skidded off the runway and 
 broke in two pices at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica.
 
 The American Airlines flight 331, a Boeing 737 that had originated in Washington DC with a stopover in Miami, 
 crashed around 22:00 (local time). On board were about 150 passengers and crew members.

Don't let your airline's financial troubles ruin your vacation

Wednesday, Flyglobespan, Scotland's largest airline, went into administration and ceased operating. 
An estimated 5,000 passengers are left without a flight they paid for.

With all the financial trouble airlines are having these days, it is important that airline passengers understand how to protect themselves if an 
airline fails. There are several ways to protect the value of your airline ticket. But some protection is limited and sometimes costs extra money. 
Here are three that are worth looking into.

EasyJet the better Ryanair

I flew today to Barcelona and I must say what a pleasant flight. The Crew was extremely helpful an friendly, its was like a crew from the good old days when they really made you feel special. I was asked  to take another more comfortable seat. The Salami Sandwich was not available but I was offered (much better) a Croque Monsieur. The greeting coming to the aircraft and when leaving was very warm. Friendliness cost nothing but it means so much. To me I felt this was a Crew who liked their job and felt happy with their work.

More often I fly Ryanair to Girona and I like Ryanair because they get me where I need to go at the right price. I expect nothing from them than a cheap transport from A to B.  
But imagine if the Crew where happy and friendly also at Ryanair. But there you see they do their job, they do what they have been told to do, nothing more, nothing less, some of them individually happen to friendly and very efficient as well but there is no comparison with Easyjet.

Does Easyjet maybe pay their cabin crew more money ? would be interesting to know. 

Some weeks ago I  took Ryanair from Girona to Sweden with a sick person onboard who later died, we had to go down and where stuck 5 hours in Marseille airport.  I must say the cabin crew and pilots did a great job in such a difficult situation. They handled the passengers extremely good, professionally good. so even Ryanair can if they want!

Hawaiian Airlines is offering round-trip airfares betrween $288 -$318 from the 10 Mainland cities it serves to Hawaii.

Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, Dec. 16, for travel between Jan. 5 and June 10. And of course springbreak date March 12 through April 5 ar blocked out.

Fees and taxes will be added and seats are very limited Tickets can be purchased at www.sky-tours.com or  by calling 800-367-5320 or through your travel agency.

Everyone hates airline baggage fees, right?

So why do some airlines insist on charging them? Theoretically, it's to make up for flagging revenues. However, leave it to the insightful Jackie Huba to dispel that myth. Amongst reports that airlines have collected hundreds of millions of dollars in baggage fees and that these new fees are a goldmine for carriers, boasting $670 million dollars in the second quarter alone for U.S. carriers, Jackie Huba points out the obvious: everyone hates them. And they hate the airlines that charge them.

What's more, she backs her finding up with facts. In her recent post, Fees are penalties, always, she cites figures for actual miles that passengers are traveling on certain airlines. Southwest and JetBlue reported substantial increases in passenger miles (8.8% and 9.8% respectively), while Delta, American, US Airways and United all reported decreasing passenger miles.

What's the difference? JetBlue and Southwest don't charge for bags. The others do. As a result, JetBlue and Southwest get more customers flying more miles because they provide a better customer experience. And the others brag about revenue from checked bags, all while their customers fly fewer miles or simply take their business elsewhere. Wonder how those baggage fee revenues will look when all the customers have switched to Southwest, JetBlue or just decided to take the train?

And in an age where customer service trumps price for consumer choices and retail stock prices reflect customer satisfaction levels, that simply won't fly.
